Updating Volunteer Information 10-7-2009

On behalf of NLP Research and Recognition I would like to introduce myself as the Volunteer Coordinator, update you on our progress, as well as exciting new happenings.
This email will cover the following:

Volunteer Coordinator:
My name is Gene Plotkin (you can find more info about me here: Communications & Networking Team ). I will be serving as the link between you all as volunteers, and the various specific NLPR&R projects that will require your particular skill sets, abilities and services.
If you received this email, it means you have volunteered your time and/or services to help NLP get the recognition it has long deserved. I too share your enthusiasm, excitement and passion for NLP. I am very excited to be a part of such an important project, and look forward to working with all of you. Together we will be able to help bring NLP and its limitless applications into the mainstream. As I’m sure you all know from experience, NLP can make a difference for countless people and we want this fact out there!
Updating Your Volunteer Information:
During the last year there have been some challenges and substantial progress. As is the case with any growth, there have been changes, not the least of which is rebuilding the website and the software supporting the 600 person volunteer data base.
In order to help us streamline our volunteer selection process and the new data base, please take a few minutes to update your information and fill out the following volunteer form:

Progress Update:
The last year has also seen a number of volunteer projects put on hold, due to major efforts focused on securing a grant and getting funding. You can read all the details here: On the Verge: Progress Update from Frank Bourke. Currently with addition of a volunteer coordinator the, volunteer programs are back and in full swing. This brings us to the volunteers we are currently looking for.
Volunteer services needed:
1) Completing NLP Library - We are currently looking for 3 – 4 volunteers with library background, experience and skills, in order to finish up the NLP library project. Some of the responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Creating hyperlinks to the information library to create easy access for the end user.
- Translating and cataloging European articles into English.
- Scanning and archiving articles for web access.
If you have library background and skills and would like to volunteer for this vital project please indicate your interest when you fill out the volunteer form. You can also contact me directly via email.
2) We are looking for a Volunteer to help compile a complete list of NLP institutes worldwide. Reaching out to NLP institutes around the world is going to play an important role in generating the support, and awareness for necessary for the success of the NLP R&R Project.
We are looking for a Volunteer with:
- Experience using search engines (such as Google, Yahoo, etc..)
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Ability to find NLP institutes and compile their basic information into a list

3) Fundraising – Further funding is essential to the NLP R&R project. A good number of the volunteers we have working are stretching resources to their limits to keep us going and growing. We need money to provide pay for some part time infrastructure support. We have six volunteer workers ready to transfer to part time paid staff tomorrow. We are looking for anyone with fundraising experience, background and skill. If you have a way to help us raise funds and have ideas on how to go about it, we are interested in your services.
